Scottish Borders Sporting Estate

A glorious residential and sporting estate in the heart of the Scottish Borders is still within easy reach of Edinburgh.

Elibank Estate is situated on the River Tweed in the heart of the Scottish borders and has been, for many generations the family seat of the Murrays, Earls of Elibank.

At the core of the 214 acre estate, is Elibank House, a superb country house with 3 reception rooms, built of harled and painted stone under a pitched slate roof, dating from the mid 19th Century.  Substantial later additions were made in 1912, and today the house provides extensive accommodation over two storeys. A self contained flat with an additional 2 bedrooms is a recent improvement of the main house, providing ideal accommodation for a dependent relative or a member of staff. Adjoining Elibank House with covered access between the back doors of each property is Eliburn Cottage which features 2 reception rooms and 3 bedrooms.

Country Life

The magnificent gardens at Elibank display an abundance of rhododendron, azalea and natural Scottish Bluebells which, in addition to snowdrops, daffodils and primroses, provide a blanket of vivid colour from early Spring.

The estate also boasts useful outbuildings, a tennis court, pony paddocks, 41 acres of grass leys, 24 acres of permanent pasture and 122 acres of mixed coniferous and deciduous woodland.

Country Life

The variety of sport available at Elibank is one of its outstanding features. The most significant aspect of this is the 2½ km beat of salmon and sea trout fishing on the River Tweed.

For the shooting enthusiast, the dramatic landscape of the upper Tweed valley is home to some of the most renowned driven pheasant shoots in Scotland. Duck flighting takes place on two ponds and the extensive woodland is home to a population of roe-deer, providing the opportunity for year-round stalking.

The Scottish Borders offer extensive equestrian opportunities. There are five hunts in the Scottish Borders (including the Buccleuch and Lauderdale Hunts, closest to Elibank) each of which holds an annual point to point. There is also National Hunt Racing at Kelso (27 miles) and several active pony clubs in the area.

Golf is also a feature of the area, with local courses at Peebles, Innerleithen and Torwoodlee.

The estate is just 38 miles from Edinburgh Airport and within commuting distance of Edinburgh city centre. The nearest village shop is situated 3 miles away in Walkerburn.

The guide price is £2.25m. For further information please contact Strutt & Parker on 0131 226 2500.
