Donkeys desperately need foster homes. Numbers of animals rescued by or given to the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth, Devon, have almost doubled in the past two years, mainly due to the economic climate, and now the charity's seven homes are full to bursting. Head of welfare Martin Taggart, says: ‘We're looking for people who are very serious about looking after a pair of donkeys.

They take a great deal of time, money and commitment, but we will be on hand to give support. We promise you will soon find out what lovely characters and superb company donkeys are.' Prospective foster homes need to have at least an acre of well-fenced grazing with a shelter.
