The Morden Hall annual alpaca open day takes place this Sunday near Royston in Hertfordshire

Monday, 06 September 2010

The Alpaca Open Farm Day takes place this Sunday, September 12, in Morden Hall, near Royston in Hertfordshire.

Morden Hall is on the borders of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. They have been farming alpacas since 1997 and the herd is now 100-strong.

A smaller, more beautiful relative to the llama, the alpaca can now be found all over the UK. It's alpaca is bred for its incredibly fine fleece. With similar qualities to cashmere, it is soft and light to touch, yet full of warmth.

This year is the 8th consecutive open day. Not only will the herd of alpacas be on display (all of them have been individually named) but this year there will be a range of alpaca knitwear for sale, spinners and felters, alpaca feed suppliers, alpaca gifts, alpaca pillows and even alpaca poo...
