Walk through the historic town, slow down, relax, and become part of something very distinctive. Steeped with history, and with a sense of tradition, feel special inside, as you arrive back at your sanctuary and create your own warm memories of life in The Old Stable.
Where it is Situated in the heart of Woodstock, only 7.9 miles from Oxford, The Old Stable is perfectly placed, to enjoy all this historic town has to offer. With stone buildings, the many boutiques and tea shops, and of course; Blenheim Palace and the beautiful park, all on your door step, Woodstock truly is a town worthy of attention. Not forgetting all that Oxford has to offer, there are many shops, the theatre, University buildings and the excellent schools to take advantage of, only a short drive away. The mainline stations at Oxford will take you to London in just over an hour. There is also the Oxford Tube that runs throughout the day and night. Although many of its finest buildings date back to an earlier Georgian era, present day Woodstock has the feel of a Dickensian town and a community spirit reflected in the many events organised each year. Blenheim Palace of course plays a large part in the year round festivities. If you're lucky enough to be in the area this Christmas, perhaps you will attend the carol singing in the Great Hall at the palace. Or why not go visit the park and walk off that meal you've enjoyed at The Feathers, a 17th century country town hotel and a renowned tradition in Woodstock. It is just one of many places that serve wholesome and locally produced food. Looking ahead to the New Year, there is the Easter Egg Challenge in the grounds of the park for all to enjoy. There are many opportunities of getting to know your neighbours and indulge in your passions. There are numerous antiques and craft fairs and a literary and art festival in the autumn. Every year there is the pantomime, which is eagerly awaited and enjoyed by all. This year it is 'Peter Pan' so perhaps you will break a leg, take part and tread the boards next year. Summer is a great time to enjoy the Woodstock spirit. The Charity Carnival and the Mock Mayor celebration in June and August are definitely dates for your diary. Living in Woodstock truly offers you the opportunity of living somewhere beautiful and historic, yet alive and rich in possibilities to suit your mood. There is plenty of life to be taken advantage of when you feel like. Why we love it Walk through the historic town, slow down, relax, and become part of something very distinctive. Steeped with history, and with a sense of tradition, feel special inside, as you arrive back at your sanctuary and create your own warm memories of life in The Old Stable. What it's got As soon as you walk down the steps after an afternoon's browsing in the high street, the feeling of going home to somewhere special and unique, is one which you feel, as soon as you walk through the front door of The Old Stable. With two entrances, one into the basement level next to the garage, and one into the hall and sitting room, you instantly feel the sense of calm. Through the entrance hall you enter the heart of the house, into the sitting room that has a beautiful aspect through large patio doors over the raised terrace garden. From the sitting room there are steps down into the ground level of the property. Here you find yourself in the oldest part of the building, with the exposed stonework that adds to the character of this house. A large room that could easily be used as a guest suite; there is a WC wash basin, or as a place to work comfortably from home. The room is perfect to have that extra spacious hideaway. There is also access to the garage. Heading back upstairs to the sitting room, you will find at the end of the room there is a separate area that could be used for dining. With a bay window looking up the hill to views of parkland in the distance, or a great place for a writing desk, everyone will love watching the world go by. Walking through to the kitchen, you again have views out over the garden and terrace, with a door for access. The current owners have cleverly created a dining area in a recess within the room, perfect for family meals when you all want to join in the discussion; no one will miss out. Continuing your journey through the house, you will find a double bedroom, the master bedroom, which is of a good size and a large bathroom, again, all with views over the garden. The garden is one talking point of this house that must be mentioned. Truly coming into its own through careful and imaginative planning by its current owners, the garden must be unique in Woodstock with raised terrace beds reminiscent of a Cornish haven. The natural stone and the array of plants, combined with the pond on the terrace are lovely. At the top of the garden, you can enjoy beautiful views over to the parkland off Blenheim. Perfect for enjoying that evening drink in the summer; could you ask for a better view? Perhaps the rich history and warm, healthy spirit of The Old Stable is created by the many people living in Woodstock that remember it through the years. Many have played in it as children when it was used as a hay barn. Before this; many years ago it used to be a fire station. With so many fond memories that have been and gone, look forward to creating many of your own, and all the new stories you will have to tell. How to get there From our offices in Summertown, take the third exit off Woodstock Road at the roundabout and continue. From here you will then reach the Woodstock Road East roundabout where you will take the second exit and continue to onwards to Woodstock following the signs. Driving into the town, bear left into High Street continuing into Park Street where you will find 3 hour parking. Take last turn on the right into Chaucer's Lane and proceed down the steps ahead.
