Hundreds of buyers attended a mass property sale organised by Countrywide where £198 million was knocked off house prices.

The sale, which was held over three days last weekend, resulted in 600 properties being sold and 1,300 viewings. More than 10,000 properties had their prices reduced for the event which was designed to spark interest in the quiet market.

Robert Scarff, managing director of Countrywide says: ‘Nothing on this scale has ever been done before – a sale of this magnitude offers huge savings for anyone looking to buy property.’

Those taking advantage of the sale included first-time buyer Andrew Hammond, a biology teacher, who bought a two-bedroom flat in Wimbledon. 'I've been renting in the Isleworth area for six years but house prices have been out of my league. I recently starting looking and was amazed at the prices. I didn't realise how much more affordable properties were - it really opened my eyes.'

Countrywide is a network of estate agencies. For details of participating agents, visit www.countrywideplc.co.uk.
