Reports of ghostly visitations have attracted attention recently at Croxteth Hall. CCTV footage appears to show a luminous yellow, glowing figure ‘walking’ along a path in the direction of the house, before disappearing. The eight-second film has persuaded Liverpool City Council, who run the property, to call in experts to find out what’s going on.
Among the poltergeist pursuers is Jason Karl, formerly of LivingTV’s ‘Most Haunted’ programme. After examining the recording closely, Karl concluded that it was ‘intriguing’.
Local legend tells of how former owner, the 2nd Earl of Sefton patrols the grounds around Grand National time. The Earl, a prolific gambler and friend to the Prince Regent, laid the foundation stone at Aintree Racecourse in 1829. Other contenders for the stalking spectre include the childless 7th Earl of Sefton, who died in 1972.
A spokeswoman from Croxteth Hall said that ‘The video looked extremely real. I was tempted to think that it was dust or an insect, or something logical, but then I saw it closely and I’m no expert, but I was tempted to change my mind.’
The team at the hall have received a huge amount of calls from ‘ghost-hunters’ since news of the footage spread. ‘It has certainly generated a lot of interest, which can’t be a bad thing. It’s fascinating, really!’
