Grade II listed, Dippersmoor Manor dates back to the early 15th century.  There is evidence of a Pele tower, which suggests the property may even date back even earlier. In the 1920s, the house was inhabited by the writer Gwen McBryde, who wrote her Guardian Country Diaries there, observing the surrounding farm life, animals and plants. She died in 1958, leaving Dippersmoor Manor to her daughter Jane, who in turn left it to her godson Hexie Millais, great-grandson of the Victorian artist Sir John Everett Millais.

The house and surrounding countryside is also described in one of the stories by the renowned author and medievalist scholar M R James who often visited Dippersmoor in the 1920s.
