Scottish castle in need of repair for sale
Westhall Castle is a 16th century historic castle in disrepair but which would offer wonderful period accommodation to those who restored it to its former self. The property is steeped in history and features in many accounts of important Scottish buildings through the years. During the 1980s and 1990s the castle was used as an hotel but has been left to ruin and is currently in some parts dangerous.
The accommodation is laid out in the original castle as well as in the later additions and it is these which have suffered most damage. The castle has five reception rooms, 15 bedrooms a walled garden and a courtyard with planning permission. Inside there are some spectacular period features including fine ornate cornicings.
Immediately in front of the castle are mature gardens and grounds including mature trees and rhododendrons and to the side of the steading is the former walled garden which is now mainly grass with evidence of past plantings.
Behind the castle is an attractive stone built range with a slate roof built around a courtyard with an arched entrance for which planning consent (now expired) has been granted for five houses. Currently the courtyard has a farmhouse, storeroom and garaging and further barns.
The steading is a separate lot with a barn a store, a former piggery, former bothy and former grain store.
The total land is around 55 acres. The property is well placed for transport links, just nine miles from Inverurie for local amenities and 21 miles from Aberdeen airport and 25 miles from Aberdeen.
The guide price is £850,000. For further information please contact Savills on 01356 628 628 or visit www.savills.co.uk.
