An exceptional country house in extensive private grounds on the outskirts of Chester. There is also an excellent converted Coach House and a range of traditional outbuildings available in addition.
3 reception rooms | kitchen | breakfast room | butlers pantry | cellar | games room | 8 bedrooms | 3 bathrooms | gardens | grounds | tennis court Excellent coach house with 3 bedrooms and outbuildings (available in addition)The original part of Field House is believed to have been built by the Earl of Shrewsbury in the first half of the Seventeenth Century. In the 1890s it underwent a major scheme of redevelopment by the renowned Victorian Cheshire architect, John Douglas. John Douglas left a legacy of numerous examples of his work and much of this was commissioned by the Duke of Westminster. At Field House he added the second floor, the Queen Anne style Dutch gables and central bay to the front elevation. The ornate design and high quality craftsmanship suggests that the work was commissioned for an owner of some stature. The central bay is surmounted by a semi-circular carved stone plinth adorned with a finial set above stone mullion leaded windows and carved sandstone detailing, giving the impression of classical columns. The symmetrical elevation has two bays flanking an enclosed porch with sandstone columns and a fan light above a panelled front door. Internally there is well presented and spacious accommodation arranged over three floors with a cellar below. The sympathetic renovation retained and enhanced the original features and integrity of the property, the result being a stylish and impressive home. The house is set in extensive grounds and approached via imposing wrought iron electric gates set between substantial stone piers and a circular gravel drive. To the rear is a range of domestic outbuildings and beyond part wooded grounds with an all-weather tennis court. At the back of the site is an excellent converted coach house with its own brick outbuildings that may be available by separate negotiation. Field House is set in delightful part wooded gardens and grounds with a large lawn bordered by a variety of mature shrubs, plants and trees. The driveway extends to the side of the house, beyond which is a meandering path leading to less formal part wooded grounds at the rear. There is an all weather tennis court and a pathway leads to electric gates providing access to the coach house.
