A nicely presented detached family home situated within this semi-rural position but within a short drive of Berkhamsted High Street. The property offers well planned family accommodation throughout whilst benefiting from a south facing rear garden which overlooks open paddock land. From the entra
Beautiful views, a large garden and a spacious house, well located on an impressive looking road, were all factors which made Evergreens an instant attraction to the current owners, Jill and Nick. The house which was built about 40 years ago is appealing to look at from the outside, with its shutters and leaded light windows. It has well proportioned rooms downstairs and four double bedrooms upstairs. "This home had everything we wanted," says Jill, "plus it's in a lovely position with the road becoming rural quickly as it heads away from the centre of Berkhamsted." The ground floor of the house is open plan with the kitchen, garden room and dining room all flowing into one another. "This has been an excellent area for a young growing family where we've had plenty of children's parties and also many family celebrations. The garden room is part brick with a lot of glazing. It's a room which can be used all year round and is a lovely place to sit whatever the weather. It has double doors opening onto the south facing garden - which is large for a house this age- great for barbecues. There are plenty of established trees and shrubs plus a big lawn and a wooden playhouse for the children." Evergreens has an integral garage with a remote controlled roller door and this area is reached from a door in the kitchen. There is also a large utility room, with a stable door to the back garden, which has proved a great place for sports kit and pets. During the past eight years Jill and Nick have refurbished the family bathroom and their master bedroom's en-suite. "Both have a power shower," they say, "and in the en-suite there is a bath and a double shower. The downstairs cloakroom has also been re-done. Double glazed windows and exterior doors have been put in throughout the house and we've replaced the flooring." Being on the edge of Berkhamsted, Evergreens is short drive from the town centre. "The town has a great cafe culture and a wide range of shops plus the railway station with trains taking about 40 minutes to reach London Euston. We also love the recently refurbished Art Deco, Rex Cinema. A short walk from the house in the other direction is Northchurch where there are a number of local shops including a One-Stop, Post Office and an off-licence." "Living here has meant the children have been able to cycle into Berkhamsted, or walk down to bus stop in Northchurch by themselves as they've got older, giving them a certain level of independence. There is also a golf driving range five minutes' walk away and our sons have had a lot of fun using that. On that site too there is a Montessori nursery school if you have children of that age. "We have loved the views from the back of this house - looking out over a paddock and the rolling countryside into the distance. It's a view which makes you really appreciate the dramatic changes of the seasons. This has been a very comfortable family home where we've all had plenty of space and the layout of the rooms has worked well."
