Jewel of the Caribbean
"A Spectacular 10 acre Plantation Estate, dating from 1740. Transformed by Oliver Messel, the property is set on a coral ridge with views overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
Fustic House is a luxurious private estate set in ten acres of beautiful tropical gardens and is considered by the National Trust to be a Jewel of the Caribbean.
The original Great House dates from 1740 and was transformed in the 1970s by Oliver Messel, the famous theatrical designer. Messel left England at the height of his career to retreat to the lush beauty of the Caribbean. He designed many homes on Barbados and on Mustique including Princess Margarets Les Jolies Eaux.
His unique style was to create a series of indoor and outdoor spaces that flowed seamlessly together and the distinctive Messel green is one of the trademarks of his work. Of all the houses he ever designed, Fustic was reputed to be his favourite. Today his spirit is captured in four separate wings discreetly dotted through Fustics exotic gardens.
