My brother liked the idea of being able to start from scratch with a home, she explained. He knew he would be able to create a house from the barns that he could really relax in – yet at the same time be within easy reach of his family and of major roads so he could travel easily.
Magnificent Character
He was, also taken with the potential of the barns, the fabulous spaces they offered and their magnificent character.
He knew it would still feel like a barn, particularly with all the beams and stonework, she said. It was large building that was clearly built for someone wealthy.
There is now a row of beautiful windows along the side in what must half been original archways.
Open Plan Style
The owner, who has lived in America, designed his home to have an open plan feel. He wanted a kitchen where he could talk to his guests while he cooked for them and living spaces that would flow easily.
My brother is a great cook and so he loves his kitchen. People can be in there while he prepares meals – he loves the fact they can move from area to area, she said.
The whole house has an incredible feeling of space, she went on, with vaulted ceilings and high windows which bring the light streaming in.
The drawing room is double height and is wonderful for entertaining. He hosted my 80th birthday party at the house and it was amazing, she said.
Impressive Interior
The Barns has an exquisite interior, carefully designed by the owner to marry modern style with rustic charm. Areas of exposed stonework are complemented with light walls, beautiful furnishings and lots of wood.
The master bedroom is very impressive. It is huge – a gorgeous area with an en suite bathroom and dressing area, she said.
There’s also a lovely guest suite. This is also a large room. It has lots of character, with three steps up to its bathroom, and is very pretty with its stone walls and cute windows.
Beautiful Barn
When the sun is out, the family enjoy gathering together in the garden at The Barns. The beautiful country house is greatly enjoyed by all of them but as the owner is now finding he has to travel more, he has decided the time has come to sell.
I think he will miss all the space he has inside the house, said his sister. It is a wonderful home and I know he has thoroughly enjoyed every opportunity he has had to spend time there.

It takes him just five minutes to reach the motorway and from there he can travel across the country by road and to airports.
The main village is just two minutes away and just over a mile from his home is a retail park with larger stores.
