Situation

Ancroft is an attractive Northumbrian village, situated in rolling countryside, about 6 miles to the south of Berwick. At its heart is the Church of St. Anne’s, thought to date from the 12th century. Ancroft benefits from good communications to Berwick, Edinburgh and Newcastle via the A1. Berwick is the principal town in the locality and has all the facilities expected of a regional centre. There is a railway station on the main east coast line, with fast links north to Edinburgh, south to Newcastle and to London, which can be reached in 3½ hours. Edinburgh and Newcastle Airports both offer a range of domestic and international flights.
Recreational facilities in the area are superb. Golf courses can be found close by at Goswick, Berwick, Eyemouth, Duns, Coldstream and Kelso, with the East Lothian courses, including Muirfield, an easy drive up the A1 to the north. The River Tweed, a few miles to the north, boasts some of the best salmon and trout fishing in the country. Fishing can be easily arranged on the Tweed, Whiteadder, Blackadder and Teviot. For walkers, there are many coastal and varied inland walks, particularly in the Cheviot Hills, to be enjoyed. The Northumberland coastline is a short distance away, with its fine beaches, sites of historic interest, including Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle, and the wonderful wildlife of the Farne Islands.
The area has good local schools, with a primary school at Scremerston, a High School in Berwick and the well-respected Longridge Towers private school is a short distance to the north.
