Accommodation

History
This fine Grade I Listed House dating from 1784, was designed by the celebrated architect Robert Adam for John Turton, physician to George III. However, it is understood to have much earlier origins as well as some later additions. In 1839 and 1840 Brasted Place was the retreat of Emperor Napoleon III, where he planned for the recovery of France. On the southern lawn he drilled a few imperialist recruits, attended with a tame eagle, symbol of the empire. On 6th August 1840 Napoleon left with his band including the eagle, in the expedition of frightening Louis Phillipe from the throne.
