Description
A magnificent country retreat located on the banks of the River Wye within this area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The property enjoys an elevated position with commanding views and a woodland backdrop. Constructed from stone elevations under a pitched and tiled roof with ornate finials, the property has been extensively refurbished by the present owners during their tenure. This is a well balanced family home retaining many classical features and original detail. There are formal gardens and terraces lying to the front and side elevations of the house forming wonderful entertaining areas, along with tiered lawns, established herbacious borders and densely planted trees, which provide privacy and screening. The recently converted coach house offers scope for an annexe, home office or the ability to house a dependent relative. The equestrian elements, including the stables, yards and pasture allied with the surrounding countryside offer some scenic and excellent rides.
The principal home is arranged in the main over two floors with a large and welcoming reception hall and a cantilever staircase as the focal point. The formal rooms enjoy a vista over the front elevation and these elegant rooms are complemented by the recently reconstructed conservatory. The kitchen/breakfast room is located in a rear wing and offers more informality. The original back kitchen beyond has been converted by the present owners to include a dark room and gymnasium. Above and with a degree of independence is an annexe with occasional sitting room, two bedrooms, a bathroom and an office. This also links to the first floor in the main house where the master bedroom benefits from not only an en suite bathroom, but also a dressing area and walk in wardrobe. The three remaining bedrooms are well served by the family bathroom.
Coach House
The coach house has been fully rebuilt and beautifully crafted with an oak timbered ceiling with a contemporary open plan feel. This offers extreme versatility with a kitchen and split level dining area, in addition to a large sitting area, three bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of which is en suite. Adjacent are the garages with tack room and beyond lies the stable block and yard.
Gardens and Grounds
The approach to Brockweir House is via a long vehicular drive which skirts the River Wye. There are approximately 37.9 acres of paddock, pasture and woodland including the formal gardens, which lie to the North, South and Westerly elevations. These have been lovingly tended providing year round colour. The gardens incorporate a natural water feature served by a stream which rises from a spring in the woods behind the house.
