Situation
Island Farm is situated in a location of dramatic natural scenic beauty. The house is protected and sheltered by a steep woodland backdrop and with its southern exposure has spectacular outlooks over immediately adjacent Loch Eck, and beyond to steep rugged mountains and glens that shape and form the local landscape.
The village of Strachur is about 6 miles to the north west and has a post office, petrol station and local shops that easily cater for everyday needs and requirements.
Sandbank and Dunoon are about 10 and 12 miles to the south respectively, the latter with a much fuller range of shopping, leisure and professional services.
Strachur has a local primary school and the secondary school for the district is located in Dunoon.
For those who are required to travel, the A815 leads north and south to scenic parts of the Cowal Peninsula. The most convenient way to travel to Glasgow city is via Western Ferries from Hunters Quay in Dunoon who have a frequent service to McInroys point at Gourock where the A770 leads through Gourock and Greenock and on to the M8 motorway network.
Lock Eck lies within the protected Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park and surrounding countryside is some of the most spectacular in the west of Scotland.
Loch Eck and some of the surrounding rivers offer excellent permit only salmon and trout fishing while the firth of Clyde can provide the sea angler with excellent sport.
The Loch also offers watersports opportunities and the forest tracks and side roads offer walks, cycle runs and challenging hill climbs.
Some of the local estates can by permission provide the opportunity for rough/walked up shooting as well as some of the best commercially run shooting in the district.
It is also possible to arrange stalking on some of the neighbouring estates by permission in what can easily be described as some of the most rugged, dramatically scenic and picturesque land and seascapes in the west of Scotland.
Ground
A new driveway from the A815 leads up to the rear of Island Farm where there is ample turning and hard standing areas for numerous vehicles. To the front is a hedged and walled garden which is laid to grass.
An additional 5.3 acres of ground lies directly behind Island Farm and can be classified as mid hill ground suitable for rough grazing.
