Situation

Ribble Valley is the largest district in Lancashire in terms of area, the majority of which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Here you will find velvet green valleys, commanding fells and heather strewn moorland among the breath-taking scenery of picturesque countryside. Positioned in the ageless landscape of rural Lancashire, this area remains relatively unexplored. Time appears to have bypassed this historic area immersed in rich heritage. Its two market towns, Clitheroe and Longridge and many villages are set in a serene and unspoilt landscapes and it is this unspoilt beauty which appeals along with the warm hospitality and wealth of creativity. Description

Thistleber Farm is a fine country house and is believed to date from 1750 or earlier. The main house, in warm stone under a stone roof, extends to over 6000 sq ft plus a double garage, gardener’s store, green house, pump room and a green oak triple car port. A programme of extension and refurbishment has been carried out sympathetically to create a fabulous contemporary family home in a rural setting with views to Pendle Hill. The quality of the work is self evident and we were particularly taken by the superb timberwork and stonework which enhances the overall ambiance and character of the house. Magnificent stone fireplaces, limestone and oak flooring, a wealth of oak to doors, windows and staircases, a bespoke sycamore kitchen, fabulous beams and roof trusses combine with contemporary bathrooms and finishes to create a fantastic fusion of the old and the new. The gardens are simply captivating and include a walled garden, orchard, privacy and variety. The paddocks and gardens extend in all to about 7.5 acres.

Accommodation

There are two principal entrances to the house, one to the main reception hall and the one the family use which lies beyond a beautiful side porch and opens to the stone floored side entrance hall with delightful curved stone walls and a window seat. A curved oak door opens off to a cloakroom with a very contemporary suite. The hall curves around to the right and a pantry room lies just before the laundry room. This has an oak door, stone floors, wine racks, a microwave and a steam oven plus a fridge/freezer area. The living/dining kitchen is an exceptional area with bespoke sycamore carved furniture, a Smart Electric Aga with a companion unit, a large central island, a vaulted ceiling with exposed oak trusses, French doors to the south facing rear terrace and an opening through to the family room with its double aspect, wood burning stove in a stone fireplace, lovely stone floors and oak beamed and strapped ceilings and an oak staircase leading up to a first floor office above. This makes up the southern wing of the house. The main section of the house is equally well planned and appointed with the dining hall having the other front entrance, a huge stone fireplace, limestone floors and an oak staircase with oak panelling alongside; two sets of oak French doors open to the rear terrace. Beyond this is the drawing room, again with stone floors and a majestic stone fireplace, a beamed ceiling and a double aspect with 4 panel arched oak windows providing views towards Pendle Hill and the village. The sitting room also has a double aspect, beamed ceiling, library shelving and a stone fireplace, although in this instance is fitted with a wood burning stove and French doors open to the rear gardens and a pergola. A doorway and steps lead down to the snooker room with its elaborate stone fireplace, fitted panelled cupboard and a snooker equipment cupboard alongside. There is a second cloakroom with a w.c. & wash hand basin up a short flight of steps and a Games Room/Gym with a door to the front, oak floors, a double aspect and a door off to the cinema room with an integrated sound system, automated blinds and lighting. The landing has a double aspect and feature curved walls reflecting those on the ground floor. The master bedroom suite includes 2 dressing rooms and a well appointed contemporary bathroom with a shower. There are 4 further bedrooms, two with built in wardrobes, a family bathroom and a family shower room.
