Situation

Craigellachie Lodge lies close to the Cairngorm National Park and in the heart of the Spey Valley, an area best known for its beautiful countryside, salmon fishing, malt whisky production and as a popular destination for those seeking activity and sporting holidays. The region offers many opportunities for sport and recreation with a number of way marked walks and cycle trails nearby, and fishing, shooting and stalking available on local estates, including salmon fishing on the world famous River Spey. There are a number of golf courses in the area and both The Lecht and Cairngorm Ski and Activity Centres are open all year round. Speyside is the home of malt whisky and this area forms part of the whisky trail with many distilleries with visitors’ centres close by.
The village of Craigellachie has a post office, garage with shop, primary school and popular hotel, while Aberlour has a wider range of shops and amenities and schooling up to secondary level available both in the town and at Gordonstoun Independent School, about 20 minutes to the North. Elgin has more extensive facilities including a railway station on the main Inverness to Aberdeen line, while Inverness and Aberdeen airports are both within one hours drive and have frequent flights to the South and Europe.

Description

Craigellachie Lodge is a handsome, traditional mansion situated on the edge of the village of Craigellachie. The property, built around 1860 for a local distillery owner, has been home to a number of well-known and distinguished locals over the decades and has formerly been used successfully for bed and breakfast purposes. Today, Craigellachie Lodge is a gracious and comfortable family home, retaining many original features. There is high quality workmanship throughout, typical of the Victorian period. This is reflected in the elegant and spacious interior, with bay windows, intricate cornicing and the impressive entrance hall with its galleried banister. Many of the bright and airy rooms have views to the gardens, the River Spey and Ben Aigen. Craigellachie Lodge has been well maintained and upgraded and any modernisation has been sympathetically carried out to preserve its traditional features. The current owners have recently carried out a programme of works including the installation of a new fitted kitchen, with new four oven Aga, and improvements to the electrics, timbers, roof and insulation.
Craigellachie Lodge is of stone and slate construction. From the main public road a tree lined, curving driveway leads to a gravel parking area at the front of the house.
