Description
Alkrington Hall is a Palladian mansion designed and built in 1735-6 by Giacomo Leoni, also responsible for significant alterations to Lyme Hall in the same period. The house was built for Darcy Lever, the head of a family of considerable local wealth and power and it remained in the family until 1845. Alkrington Hall is an important and imposing example of Leoni’s work and is one of only a few surviving examples throughout England. The house was sympathetically and carefully split into 4 sections about 20 years ago and we are pleased to be offering one of the larger and most impressive areas of the hall with nearly 6000 sq ft of accommodation arranged over 4 floors and quite recently transformed by our clients to fuse contemporary living space with period grandeur. A gated private driveway leads to the side entrance and a private walled garden, gravelled courtyard and secure parking with a double garage.
Accommodation
The side entrance opens to an entrance vestibule with a cloakroom and a w.c. and an access staircase leading to the full basement with a music room, games room, wine cellar, workshop, boiler room and a store room. An outside door leads to a large covered external storage area. The basement has 10’3" high rooms and offers a wealth of additional entertaining space, ideal for families with children or for entertaining guests. Back on the ground floor the stone flagged hall has a magnificent carved staircase leading up 3 storeys and off to the left is the family living room with library shelving, pine floors, Corinthian columns and 3 sets of tall windows with window seats overlooking the parkland to the front. The living kitchen lies across the hall and this has been superbly reappointed to include an island, integrated Smeg appliances, oak floors and granite surfaces yet still has plenty of space for informal dining and a casual seating area, all overlooking the private gardens through 4 shuttered Georgian windows. The drawing room is simply magnificent with its original stone fireplace fitted with a log burning stove, oak panelled walls and 3 almost full height Georgian windows with original shutters overlooking the rear gardens accessed by French doors in the central window. The first floor has a large landing illuminated by the huge staircase window and leads off to the very indulgent Master and Guest suites. The master suite includes a large bedroom area, a dressing room and a beautifully appointed and especially large en-suite bathroom with a contemporary suite, freestanding bath and a separate shower. The guest suite is similarly well appointed with an en-suite set behind a screen and views over the park. The second floor has great children’s bedrooms with 3 large double bedrooms, a large single bedroom/office/work room, a laundry room and a store room. This floor is served by a shower room and one of the bedrooms has an en-suite w.c. and a wash stand hand basin.
