The Story
Cooking in the kitchen, the owner can enjoy chatting to friends and family as they sit nearby. The kitchen is the whole heart of the home for me. I love cooking so it’s the room I tend to be in the most, she said.
When she first saw the property 11 years ago, it was just an architect’s drawing published in a local newspaper. But the contemporary style and green location drew her in.
I knew the area like the back of my hand and had wanted to live in Nomansland, next to the forest, for a while, so when it came up I jumped at the chance.
Although the building had been planned, she was able to put her stamp on the finishing touches, ensuring the kitchen was exactly as she wanted it.
I made sure there was a range-style cooker, granite work surfaces, oak kitchen cabinets and lovely French-style tiles, she said. There’s also wooden flooring in there, as there is throughout the rest of the downstairs, and there are French windows out to the garden.
FAMILY ROOMS
Next to the kitchen is the area she uses as a family room or snug.
It is great for children or for socialising but it could also be used as a dining room if need be, which is what it was originally designed for, she said.
The lovely drawing room is also great for either relaxing or entertaining, with its feature fireplace with log fire, and French windows leading to the garden.
I’m not in there a great deal due to my busy lifestyle but the room is very attractive and it’s a favourite with my family when they come to visit, she said. They absolutely love coming here and stay for long periods at a time.
Also downstairs is a study that has access to the integral garage.
It’s ideal for working at home but you could use a different room as an office if you wanted to, she said. The house is very flexible.
HEIGHTENED APPEAL
A spacious hallway leads to the stairs with a lovely gallery area at the top, and wooden flooring. Leading from the gallery are five bedrooms, four doubles and one single, the two largest having pretty views out over the garden.
The master bedroom boasts an en-suite bathroom, as does the third largest bedroom, which is ideal for guests.
The single bedroom is nice too as it has views out over the open fields that are adjacent to the house. It could be another study or a peaceful nursery perhaps, she added.
A spacious family bathroom is also on the first floor and there is a staircase that leads to the loft space.
I’ve never needed to use the loft space but with a proper built-in staircase already there it’s ready to go and is crying out for development, she said.
HAPPY MEMORIES
The secluded garden offers a great deal of potential for entertaining and for families.
Next to the New Forest, it welcomes an array of wildlife including birds such as tits, finches and sparrows.
For someone who likes the outdoors, the garden and the local area are perfect. I like golf and I can play nearby as there are plenty of great courses.
There’s also horse riding, cycling and fantastic walking opportunities, she said.
And she added: The area is lovely and it’s been a happy home for me.
I would say I’ve spent some of the best days of my life here – there hasn’t been a moment I haven’t enjoyed.
