Situation
Drymendevin is set in a elevated position with magnificent views down Glen Luss to Loch Lomond and Inchconnachan Island beyond. The Glen Luss valley carries Luss water east to Loch Lomond at the village of Luss.
A settlement has probably existed at Luss since the 1300s when it is known there was a church dedicated to St Kessog, who brought Christianity from Ireland and founded a monastery on neighbouring Inchtavannach (Island of the Monks), in the 6th century. The village of Luss today owes much to the local landowners, the Colquhouns. The village was rebuilt in the early 1800s to house workers for the nearby slate quarries.
Luss is within the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, in an area of outstanding beauty, yet, under normal driving conditions, is only about 45 minutes drive from Glasgow City Centre and 35 minutes from Glasgow International Airport. The village offers a village store, post office, Inn and coffee shop.
The world acclaimed Loch Lomond Golf Course, one time host to the Barclays Scottish Open, is just outside the village. The five star Cameron Hotel and Country Club is also close by, and there are numerous other golf courses in the vicinity.
Description
Drymendevin is a charming cottage which at one time would have been part of the Luss Estate, seat of the Colquhoun’s. It has been in private ownership of some 50 years. Formed over two levels under a tiled roof it offers flexible accommodation.
Accommodation
An entrance porch leads directly into the kitchen which is fitted in a farmhouse style with wooden units at wall mounted and counter level. It offers a two oven Raeburn and a number of Gaggenau appliances including oven, grill, BBQ grill and electric hob.
The kitchen has a tiled floor and is open plan with the sitting room and main reception hallway. The sitting room has sliding patio doors and leads to the guest suite with double bedroom and en suite shower room. The bedroom has fitted furniture and French doors.
There are two fitted bedrooms and a family bathroom on the ground floor. On the first floor is the drawing room and dining room. The drawing room has an open fire and spectacular views down Glen Luss and over Loch Lomond towards Inchconnachan Island.
A boiler room, which is plumbed for a washing machine, is off a mid landing with an attic room presently used as a nursery completes the accommodation.
The grounds of Drymendevin are beautiful. To the front of the cottage, gardens face east. To the north side a pretty stream meanders through the garden on its way to Loch Lomond. A small bridge which was added in the last few years leads over the stream to a paved BBQ area. On the west side the garden is predominantly lawned and rises towards a large potting shed which at one time offered further accommodation. It is in disrepair. Drymendevin also benefits from a substantial driveway, tool shed and an excellent double garage with electric doors.
The house has a private water supply, oil fired central heating, double glazing and new replacement guttering fitted in 2010.
