Property description
Environmentally-friendly eco-lodge at the foot of the Tenorio Volcano, sitting in the middle of a biological corridor and acting as a base for tourists in the north of Costa Rica, an emergent area for tourism.Costa Rica is a world leader in eco-tourism, and the Blue Mountain Lodge has positioned itself in this ever-growing segment with a lodge that accommodates 18 guest rooms and that was built following ecologically-conscious concepts. Nestled between two volcanoes– Tenorio and Miravalles– the lodge’s doors open up to the famous Río Celeste area and the Tenorio Volcano National Park.
At 80 minutes from the International Airport of Liberia, 90 minutes from the Arenal Volcano and Caño Negro (famous for its birdwatching), and only 35 minutes from the Interamerican Highway, the lodge is perfectly positioned to be an essential stop on the itinerary of any tourist in Costa Rica.
The lodge sits on nearly 7 hectares, of which 4 are protected primary tropical forest, adjacent to the national park. Given the neighboring properties of protected land, the hotel will be permanently protected on three of its borders, as it is the home of tapirs, monkeys, felines and more birds than you could ever count.
The property has spectacular views of the Tenorio and Miravalles volcanoes, as well as of the town of Bijagual de Upala. At 800m (2,400ft) of elevation, Blue Mountain Lodge is a year-round comfortable spring temperature, and is always caressed by at least a light breeze.
The lodge was built in 2007 and was influenced by tropical architecture– the environment was a priority, and the construction was done using recycled and reusable materials and being environmentally conscious in every detail.
There are 18 guest rooms with full bathrooms, two rooms for guides/chauffeur with a shared full bathroom, and two small lodges for management with full bathrooms (one with three rooms and another with two), bringing the total to 37 beds.
The electricity is from the public grid and is generated 100% from renewable energy and the water is sourced locally from springs in the National Park. There is cell phone coverage, fiber optic internet, paved roads and all major attractions in the area. The town of Bijagual includes all the necessities at a small scale, including shops, small restaurants, a public health clinic, dentists, national banks, ATMs, butcher shops, bakeries, schools, mechanics, police stations, a church, etc.
The hotel is fully equipped with all supplies necessary, including laundry facilities, a kitchen, and office materials. There is also a 12-passenger van, as well as assisted-guidance vehicles for handicapped users. The founders have invested resources, time and energy into community development, sourcing labor and materials locally, creating a strong bond with the local community.
