Property description
Located in the Appellation of Cotes de Bordeaux, this extraordinary Chteau offers 2.5 ha of vines, composed of Cabernet (20%) and Merlot (80%) grapes embedded in rich limestone/clay soil. There is an opportunity to plant an additional 1.5 ha in the adjoining meadow. Currently the wine is vinified by the local Cave Cooperative and bottles are then returned to the Chateau. It is an extraordinary Chteau with a tangible history ready for you to discover. This substantial property has been built on a Gallo-Roman site. Artefacts dating back to this period have been found within the extensive grounds and one would imagine there is more to discover ! Records suggest first occupancy in the XIV century with the original chateau subsequently replaced in the XVI century by Guillame de Gascq, Squire of Henry IV. The chateau has been in the same family since the XVIII century which in itself is very impressive and perhaps something for the new custodian to aspire to! In 1763 the chateau was extended by a lower wing and in 1766 it was again extended with the addition of its own Chapel. A classified building Monument Historic and featured in 4 films due to the grand nature of its presence. In its elevated position the castle has retained its defensive exterior appearance and is complimented by its private grounds, vineyards, meadow and woodland. Internally youll find a centralised and very substantial staircase that leads from the ground floor to the first and second floors. On the ground floor there are various reception areas appointed with classic Louis XV and XVI refined woodwork, worked ceilings - 3.8m high, Versailles style parquet flooring and sculpted fireplaces. Rooms leading out to the terrace overlooking the meadow and another casting an elevated view over the vineyards. All bedrooms are situated on the 1st and 2nd floors, along with ensuite bathrooms and sitting rooms. From the stone spiralled staircase off the 2nd floor youll be led to a studio with natural light, large fireplace and views over the valley. As currently utilised, a separate apartment with sitting room and fireplace, large kitchen area with old bread oven and storage room. Access to the rear terrace overlooking the vines and original access into the main domain. Up on the 1st floor (split) youll find a sitting room with mezzanine bedroom and ensuite opposite to another bedroom with ensuite. Contained within the XVIII century extensions the property offers a chapel with sitting room and kitchen. On the lower level there is a generously sized cellar with bathroom attached. An original stable now with solid floors and mezzanine, suitable for potential conversion or stable use once again. The Chateau is elevated above the vines and a 300m2 lake. The land holding equates to approximately 6ha. There is a possibility for those passionate about equestrian sports to utilise close to 2ha of park as their training ground. By becoming custodians of this magnificent chteau you will have the honour of becoming part of the colourful history of this stately building.
