This secluded refuge, perched high on a wooded promontory dominating a romantic valley, is undisturbed and far from everything due to its surroundings yet close to a full range of amenities in the lively town of Crépy-en-Valois, 4 km away, and Paris 70 km away.
In Gérard de Nerval country (19th century French writer), with its authentic country churches, villages dotted along the beautiful luxuriant valley, a region where the landscapes are magical.
A path runs up between the small town hall and a 12th century church, after the last houses in the village and disappears into the forest. It leads to the house situated at the end of a long driveway.
Standing with one’s back to the main facade of this old hunting lodge, one can see the village below. The view is enchanting both in the winter with its bare trees and in summer when the trees are leaf-laden.
The property spans three hectares and is embedded in the forest with wide scenic views thanks to its paths and tracks.
A grass terrace protected by a wrought iron balustrade looks out on to the valley.
The hunting lodge on a promontory
The building, a hunting lodge dating back to the end of 19th century, was gradually improved and extended.
Designed like a stage setting, there is a visible side, the main facade and another side that isn’t meant to be seen. A projection stands out in the centre of the facade, on the valley-facing side. It is topped with a hip and sprocket roof covered with flat tiles. The lower section of the facade is brick and the upper section painted to imitate half-timbering. Decorative features such as imitation balconies bring to mind the Art-Deco rather than Art-Nouveau style without disrupting the aesthetic balance of the ensemble.
The other facade, the one facing the forest, is not decorated, it is entirely rendered.
The house needs to be refreshed. It has preserved the distinctive characteristics of this type of building. A little secluded retreat in the middle of the woods dominating the countryside given its elevated position with only trees as neighbours. The elves are not far away. The property is magical with its mushrooms, deer, and wild berries close by and it is just ten minutes from the Crépy-en-Valois train station linking it directly to Paris in forty minutes. This house may therefore be used as a country house but also a home for those working in Paris.
