The village, in the Rhone Valley’s Upper-Vivarais region, is a picturesque spot in the French department of Ardèche, a little eyrie in a verdant setting. Its strategic position used to control movement between the Rhone Valley and the plateau of Annonay. It is now an unspoilt, quiet village, providing a complete change of scenery, which is nevertheless very near to all amenities and main communication routes.
Equidistant between Lyon and Valence, their TGV train stations as well as Lyon-Saint-Exupéry international airport are an hour away by car. Slip roads for the A7 motorway are 20 minutes away.
Set in the midst of the village, this old stone house dominates the meanders of a little stream. The view takes in a medieval castle and its tall keep which represent the highest point of the village. Perched on rock, this house looks down on to a stream and features a hanging terrace. A stone outbuilding, standing next to the house, has been converted and extends the living space.
The stone house
The village appears to exude all the poetry of the Middle-Ages. The village is picturesque and authentic whilst the gorge is wild. The house, nestling in its verdant setting, is a haven of peace. Fully renovated, it will appeal equally well to a family seeking to live far from the hustle and bustle of a large town as to lovers of old stone. In addition to its pleasant way of life, its location along the Wine Route (Saint-Joseph, Crozes, Côtes-Rôties, Hermitage, Condrieu) is yet another asset.
The converted outbuilding
Another flight of stone steps also provides access to the outbuilding standing near to the house. This small, stone “house” spans two levels of living space. A large living room on the ground floor looks widely out through picture windows on to the natural surroundings. It is heated via a wood-burning stove. A suite on the floor below is laid out on a level with the garden. It comprises a bedroom, a shower room and a toilet.
With direct access to a little garden, it is possible to hear the gentle tinkling of the water in the stream and a few stone steps go down to the bank of the stream.
