Set in magnificent grounds (approx. 2.8 acres) and lovingly maintained over almost three decades by its current owners, Feddan House is a terrific family home steeped in history. It began life as a constabulary as part of the Humewood Castle Estate in the mid nineteenth century when there was an active military and peace keeping presence in the area. Humewood Castle, a gothic fantasy, was built in c 1870 as a summer retreat for Fitzwilliam Hume, the wealthy MP for Wicklow and remained in successive generations of the same family until 1992. During Feddan House's history it became a two teacher schoolhouse with associated teachers quarters and accommodations, providing educational opportunities to the local community for many generations before being transformed into a presbytery when a priests walk' was developed in the grounds. It has since been a sumptuous family home for a number of decades where it has enjoyed private woodland walks and a babbling brook providing restful amenities as well as paddock and separate two storey apartment accommodation in the grounds. The house has had a number of illustrious visitors over the years including national politicians of various hues including the late Eamonn De Valera amongst others who was reputedly accommodated as a guest on more than one occasion.
The entrance hall is a welcoming space with its original tiled flooring. To the right is the drawing room with open fireplace. The dining room is to the left of the entrance hall and has a feature fireplace. The kitchen is at the heart of the home and has a dual aspect looking over the gardens and grounds. With tiled flooring and a range of high and low-level units the kitchen is perfect for family living and is finished with feature fireplace that would be perfect for wood burning stove to finish the room. The family room is a beautiful entertaining room that is bright and spacious and perfect for all times of the year. Upstairs the master bedroom has built in wardrobes and carpet flooring. The ensuite has a w.c., w.h.b., bath with shower head. Upstairs are complete with 3 further double bedrooms.
There is a one double bed roomed apartment with its own access from the main road through a second driveway. It has wonderful views over the estate of Humewood Caslte. The accommodation includes a kitchen/living area, bathroom and one bedroom and is presented in pristine condition. The apartment can be used for several uses and is very private.
