Property description

Salterbridge House was built in 1751 by Richard Musgrave, on land acquired from the Lismore Castle estate. The house was expanded in the early 1800s, and then again, some years later. The date 1849 is carved into the courtyard arch, and 1884 into the oak panels in the hall. The style is Regency Picturesque, which would have been a bold design move at the time, but which today represents the height of tasteful and relaxed elegance.

Throughout its history, the house has been sold only once, to the family of the present owners, back in 1947. This is therefore an incredibly rare opportunity to make one of the signature houses of the Blackwater Valley your own.

Salterbridge fits into the unique social life of this famous region. The excellent acoustics of its Victorian wood-panelled hallway lend themselves to music recitals, such as those hosted here during the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival.

Meanwhile the elegant reception rooms are a wonderful backdrop for relaxed entertainment, filled with sunshine in summer or warmed by fires in the generous fireplaces in winter. These are rooms that also rise to the occasion with ease for larger formal social gatherings.

With eight bedrooms in the main house, additional staff accommodation, two gate lodges and a steward's house, plus a stable yard and a farmyard, Salterbridge is a wonderful family home.
