William Butler Yeats was so inspired by the lakes and landscapes of County Sligo that he immortalised them in some of his most beloved poetry. Sitting on the shores of Lough Gill, The Lake House soaks up all the region's rewarding beauty and returns it as a wonderful place to retreat, or to make your year-round home.
Lough Gill itself is the location of Yeats' The Lake Isle of Innisfree, while the woodlands that inspired the Sleuth Wood of The Stolen Child is just a stroll down the lane. It takes a certain kind of house to make the most of such a spot, and The Lake House is all you could imagine, and more.
Old fashioned charm is taken care of by a fully renovated cottage, that includes a snug-style bar, plus spots to work and play; while the main house is a stunning example of classic mid-century modern design with a wonderful contemporary upgrade throughout.

Designed to welcome you in, while also making the most of its amazing setting, the house opens itself up to the lake, fully capturing the drama of all its many moods, as well as the peace and tranquillity that, as Yeats himself so memorably wrote, comes dropping slow.
The central spine of the house is a huge open plan kitchen, dining and living area, with a pair of bedroom wings flanking to either side. This wise design means that the two main bedroom suites each have uninterrupted lake views. There is also a show-stopping master bathroom, with a free-standing copper, roll top bath perfectly placed in front of French windows, that open to a terrace that houses a lavendar garden. The perfect privacy of the location means that this is a spot to truly soak up the views.
Set into a sloping site, The Lake House is split level, with a hallway, study and large garage at ground level. Go up a floor, to find the main living areas, reaching out to a decking terrace overlooking the lake.
The centre of the house is the very large kitchen, dining and living space. This has an island unit with gas hob and wooden counter tops, as well as dekton-topped units to each side, a Belfast sink and built in oven and American style fridge-freezer. There is also a pantry off the kitchen, and everything has been beautifully upgraded and maintained. There is also a cleverly designed secret door that leads off the main kitchen to a pantry.
Stairs lead down to the sitting room, which has a wood burning stove as a centre piece. Picture windows with sliding doors lead to the terrace and from there to the lake.
Of the four bedrooms, two are master suites, with walk-in wardrobes and en-suites. The master bedrooms have picture windows to the lake, while the master bathroom is an exceptional spot, as the bath is positioned to catch the views, and the aromas from the lavender garden, while sliding doors bring a whole new meaning to bathing in nature.
A retreat, an inspirational space, and a wonderful year-round home, The Lake House fully lives up to the glory of its extraordinary location.

The approx. 1.32 hectares (3.28 acres) of grounds at The Lake House have been beautifully landscaped with thought and care, preserving mature trees, but opening up the unrivalled lake views. The house is elevated, giving a sense of floating over the water. Follow the lawns down to find a jetty out onto the water, ideal for fishing, boating, swimming and kayaking.
Closer to home, there is a chip and tar drive and ample parking. Wide decking flanks the shore side of the house. This is on a raised terrace, which also includes a specially made lavender garden, adding delicious and relaxing aromas to the views especially while bathing in the perfectly placed bath.
The property is also a paradise for nature lovers, which abounds in deer, duck, pheasant and squirrels.
