DESCRIPTION OF THE BUILDINGS
The castle (1,715 sqm 18,453 sqft, 9 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms) dates back to the 11th century and is nowadays laid over three floors:
- Ground floor: dining room, ample kitchen (capable of accommodating up to 24 guests), storage rooms, laundry, five bedrooms and four bathrooms;
- First floor: library with fireplace, four ample halls (two living rooms and two reception rooms), formal dining room, four bedrooms and three bathrooms;
- Second floor: several rooms, once used by the servants, could be converted into bedrooms for the guests.
The castle was recently renovated and brought back to its original splendor while fully complying with Italian anti-seismic laws. The halls, with their huge ceilings and the ample windows, are very bright and welcoming.

The country house N1 (375 sqm 4,035 sqft, 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms) is located not far from the castle and is laid over two floors. The building is ideal to create mote bedrooms and expand the accommodation business.

Right next to the pool there is a spacious event hall (280 sqm 3,013 sqft), created in what was in the past a drying barn for the tobacco harvested in the fields of the estate.

HISTORY OF THE CASTLE
The original castle can be dated back to the 11th century and was built to defend the road connecting the Tiber Valley and Valdarno together with the nearby Castello di Montauto. In the following years, the castle was reworked by the Barbolani di Montauto family so that it could be inhabited as a countryside manor: the property remained in the possession of the family until the 18th century. A fire destroyed the castle in 1178 and the building was only rebuilt in the 16th century, when it had no strategic purpose anymore. Nowadays, the building is a typical fortified villa, quadrangular in shape, with four round towers at its corners.
The 16th century (or even 17th century, as many historians have argued) reconstruction can be deduced by the huge loggia with windows on the upper floor: huge openings and windows were not suitable for a fortress since they offered an easy way in to the enemy in case of a siege and constituted a structural weakness.

EXTERIORS
The castle sits in a beautiful estate of 65.9 hectares (162.8 acres), covered for the most part in mixed woodland (46.0 ha) and arable fields (14.0 ha). Several olives (roughly 5.0 ha in total) allow producing excellent Tuscan olive oil.
Right behind the castle, in a quiet and retired position, there is a beautiful 18 x 5 m swimming pool with dressing room and shower.

USE AND POTENTIAL USES
The castle, given its retired position and the beautiful finishes, is perfect both as a private luxury house and as an accommodation business. The pool is further bonus, as is the proximity to many of the most interesting cities of Tuscany such as Florence, Arezzo and Siena.
