't Huis Empe.

This attractive, white-plastered castle-like country house in the Old IJssel River basin dates back to the 16th century. At the front, there is your own princess tower; at the back, a lush, partially covered, tiered terrace.

't Huis Empe is a well-maintained national monument consisting of four, uniquely linked, houses. After forty years, number 168 - better known as house number 3 - now becomes available. This makes you the owner of a quarter castle. But not only that. You also become co-owner of the park-like surroundings with hiking trails, private woods, water features, a vegetable garden and part of the coach house.

Living.
From the former knight's hall on the ground floor, with authentic beamed ceiling and grand fireplace, you look far out over the bell-shaped garden and pond. Steps lead to the sun-drenched terrace where kiwis grow lushly. The current residents leave the house with much melancholy and fond memories: 'It is a lovely house for two people, but accommodating twenty guests is also possible,' say the current owners who loved to welcome their (grand)children and their friends there.

The cozy kitchen in the basement is intimate and functional at the same time. A wonderful place - inspired by the vegetable garden - endless jam making or cake baking. On the second floor are 3 (bed) rooms, a sunny loggia and a bathroom. On the second floor are another 3 bedrooms, one with loft. There is a toilet on each floor. Clever light shafts provide generous incident daylight.

Outside.
In addition to your private terraces, you - along with the other residents - have as much as six acres of land at your disposal. There is a fire pit where local residents love to gather for the annual Easter fire. There is a wood store with space for chopping and splitting. There is a pond lined with old trees and a swimming dock. Large enough for boating, supping or skating. There are woods for hiking and benches to enjoy all the beauty. The management of the extensive vegetable garden is outsourced to a real gardener. He organically ensures a rich and varied supply. All you have to do is harvest and enjoy. There is also a fruit orchard, a historic flower garden and a berceau with pear trees. On a chalkboard next to the grape greenhouse, the gardener keeps track of what can be harvested or picked. You will eat - if you wish - just like former castle dwellers did, exclusively from your own garden. An inspiring place for a summer evening dinner.

Empe.
Empe is part of the municipality of Brummen and is located on the N345 between Voorst and Zutphen in the middle of the IJssel Valley. There are wide floodplains, stately estates and romantic farmhouses. The village owes its own train station to the fact that the NS director once lived in 't Huis Empe. Nearby Voorst has supermarkets, schools and other amenities. An extensive culinary and cultural offer can be found in Arnhem, Deventer or Zutphen. Via the A50 and A1 you can quickly reach the rest of the Netherlands.
