Property description
Tullesbo Castle – A Treasure in Skåne with Medieval RootsWelcome to Tullesbo Castle, also known as Thulisbo or Thulesbo, situated in the heart of Sjöbo municipality in beautiful Skåne. With roots stretching back to the medieval era, first mentioned in the 1300s, the castle carries a rich and fascinating history. The current castle, a splendid representative of classical Rococo style, was constructed between 1753 and 1780 by Hans Ramel. The designs were created by Jean Eric Rehn, one of the most prominent architects of the 18th century, known for his work on Övedskloster. The castle complex follows a classical pattern with an open plan, a so-called cour d'honneur, around which the main building and the two wings are grouped. On the other side, towards the south, the park extends.
Originally built as a widow's seat for Amalia Beata Lewenhaupt, Hans Ramel's wife, Tullesbo Castle has over the years preserved its historical integrity and elegance. This makes the castle a unique representative of Swedish castle architecture from the 18th century and an important part of Skåne's cultural heritage. The Ramel family owned the castle until 2006.
The castle offers a generous living area of 480 sqm, along with an additional 350 sqm of basement and attic, providing ample space for both living and representation. The interior impresses with its well-preserved original details, such as the limewashed walls and limestone floors. The elegant salons, open fireplaces, and many hand-painted tiled stoves in original from Rörstrand, the exclusive dining room with cornices, stucco, and board floors with painted frieze, all exude a timeless charm. The kitchen is equipped with gray-lacquered oak cabinets and a limestone countertop, along with appliances from Gaggenau.
The grand staircase in original limestone leads up to the bedrooms and a beautiful salon with a library overlooking the stunning garden and the picturesque surroundings of forest and land.
The property also includes two charming wing buildings, carefully renovated in 2007 and 2008. A newly built annex of 350 sqm, perfect for weddings and festivities, adds further dimensions to this unique property. For relaxation and entertainment, there is a magnificent pool house/orangery, constructed between 2008 and 2010, boasting an open fireplace, stone floors, and an impressive pool with Roman steps, heated via geothermal energy.
The surrounding garden park is dominated by a large open grass parterre framed by stately tree-lined avenues along the long sides. Four years ago, an extensive garden installation was added for the cultivation of apples, pears, plums, cherries, and various berry bushes, further enhancing this idyllic setting. On the 15.8 hectares surrounding the castle, you can enjoy the peaceful nature, stroll along the linden avenues, and relax by the tranquil pond. A memorial stone, an obelisk, north of the pond commemorates Hans Ramel's daughter-in-law Maria Ramel, who died in 1787. Such a memorial is representative of 18th-19th century park environments.
In the 1700s, a number of deer parks were established in Skåne, including at Övedskloster where white fallow deer were released for enjoyment and viewing. The white deer also roam up to Tullesbo Castle and can be seen grazing in the beautiful surroundings.
Tullesbo Castle is more than just a home; it is a lifestyle and a unique opportunity to acquire a piece of Swedish history and culture. The previous owners from 2006 to 2014 carefully restored the castle and its surroundings, and the owners from 2014 to 2020 have managed the property well and erected a new building in the western part of the park. Since 2020, the castle has been operated as a business.
