Property description
Please contact local co-listing agent Lacey Vik (360-921-8788) with additional property and showing details. This vintage home with AMAZING VIEWS in the heart of Cathlamet, overlooks the Columbia River. Hand crafted woodwork throughout, inlaid original wood floors, solid wood pocket doors, cove ceilings, butler's pantry and original leaded glass windows have all survived the years to keep this house largely original! ALL bedrooms have a 3/4 bath or Jack and Jill bath. Has been operating as a B&B: Commercial/res. zoning offers many business opportunities. Don't miss this charming one-of-a-kind home! Built in 1907 by local lumber baron Henry Armstrong for their personal residence utilizing local old growth timber. All the wood was hand cut and the mouldings hand planed, creating a sturdy and quality built home. The hand cut leaded glass and stained glass windows were designed by the Povey Brother’s Company out of Portland Oregon. In 1909, Armstrong sold the home to the Mayor and Mrs. Heron, who owned the home for 60 years, passing it down to their daughter Blanche Bradley, and then to Blanche’s daughter Harriet Tegart. Harriet donated the home to the town of Cathlamet as the Blanche Bradley Civic Center. For the next 17 years, the town utilized the house at their community library. In 1987 the home was sold back into the public, and has gone through a number of updates serving as a Bed and Breakfast, and sometimes a family home. The home provides excellent views of the Columbia River and breathtaking sunsets. The front porch offers the perfect place to view local community events on Main Street like the annual Bald Eagle Days Parade or the Lighted Holiday Parade and fireworks over the river several times throughout the year. Cathlamet is a lovely small town in the boutique county of Wahkiakum on the lower Columbia River. People are happy and friendly in this colorful and picturesque community. The location was founded by James Birnie in 1846, as he preferred the temperate climate, which is typically ten degrees cooler in the summer than Fort Vancouver, and warmer in the Winter due to the marine breeze which travels up the river from the Pacific Ocean. The town of Cathlamet is located on a rugged shoreline of the Columbia River in Southwest Washington, about 22 miles east of Astoria, Oregon.
