Monaco events: Top Marques

Top Marques Monaco 2014 broke all previous records this year, said the organisers, as over 30,000 people visited the luxury supercar show over Easter weekend. Held every April in Monte Carlo the event has become a must-see for high net worth individuals keen to invest in supercars and luxury brands from watches to jewellery.

Organized in association with leading European private financiers the Edmond de Rothschild, Top Marques was again inaugurated by H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco; also a guest of honour at the inauguration was Kenzo Takada, founder of the designer fashion label Kenzo.

The show is so popular because attendees get the chance to actually try out some really exceptional car on part of the FI Monaco Grand Prix circuit; at other events these cars are only available for viewing. Top Marques is extremely exclusive and has developed a reputation for attracting clientele from all over the world.

This year’s test drives included the Lamborghini Aventador Hamann, the Ferrari 458 Italia and Mando Footloose, the world’s first ever e-bike (below), which organisers say was hugely well-received.

Other highlights included the David Brown Automotive Speedback supercar, otherwise known as ‘Project Judi’. Designer Alain Mobberley said: “The feedback on the car has been amazing. Everyone is unanimous that it is the best car of the show for its simplicity and its elegance.

He added that he would ‘conservatively estimate’ that at least 20 sales of the car, with a retail price of £495,000 (plus tax) would follow the show.

Other manufacturers to have initiated multiple sales at Top Marques include Lexus, Hamann, and Tesla.

The Viking luxury motorbike (above, being unveilled by H.S.H Prince Albert) designed by Henrik Fisker and launched by Danish manufacturers Lauge Jensen, also received some very good reviews. A spokesperson for the manufacturer said that they had received 17 confirmed orders for its product and a further dozen other potential sales.

Luxury watchmaker Franck Muller is said to have sold a number of timepieces, whilst antique dealers La Tibétaine sold a Buddha with a price tag of €50,000.

If you’re interested in attending next year’s show, Top Marques will take place again in these auspicious surroundings from 16-19 April 2015: to book your place visit www.topmarquesmonaco.com.
