Steeped in 1000 years of tradition yet with a ‘cutting edge’ approach to education, King’s Ely welcomes each student to embark on an exciting journey. Whether they join at two or at 7+, 13+ or 16+, or indeed anywhere in between, your child will experience first-hand the adventure that learning can be.

Educational ethos

From the Creative Curriculum that underpins the learning of our youngest students to the opportunities to perform with the English National Opera or to compete for a prestigious expedition programme in South America, King’s Ely offers learning that goes way beyond the classroom. A King’s Ely education is all about learning in the deepest and richest sense. Through a broad and balanced curriculum, King’s Ely pupils will develop the self-knowledge and inner resilience that will enable them to face the challenges of an ever-changing world. Our aim is to create responsible, resilient, engaged and caring young people who have developed learning habits that successfully prepare them for public examinations, higher education and the world of work.

The school is situated in the beautiful historic town of Ely in the shadow of one of the world’s finest cathedrals, our school chapel. With many of the school buildings within the cathedral precincts, the school enjoys a tranquil setting, just 20 minutes from the university town of Cambridge and a five minute walk from the river, where King’s Ely and Cambridge university students row. The school enjoys excellent transport links, with direct access to London, Cambridge and Stansted airport.

The need to achieve highly in public examinations remains our imperative as good qualifications offer both the choice and opportunities to which students aspire. This was borne out in the pride that was felt on Results Day this year when it was revealed that the Year 13 leavers had achieved record-breaking results with many achieving 100% A* or A grades. Nearly all our students access top universities including Oxbridge and with the unique support that is offered at Sixth Form, almost all achieve places at their first-choice institution. Visit our website to read about the exciting destinations of our leavers and the careers they go on to pursue.

King’s Ely believes it has a duty to ensure the continuation of excellence in the school by the designation of awards to talented pupils. Scholarships and exhibitions are available in Music, Art, Drama, Sport, DT and Academic.
