The commune, between Nantes and La-Roche-sur-Yon is set in undeniable beautiful, verdant countryside, less than an hour from the coast. Paris and several other European capitals can be reached via the international airport 30 km away. A TGV train station is 40 minutes away and the A83 motorway just 15 km away. This chateau is in the midst of a village, in the French department of Vendée, where all amenities are but a 5-minute walk away. Historic sites and the river banks are but some of the many places to take a walk.
The tops of this chateau’s many chimney stacks can be glimpsed from the main road coming from La-Roche-sur-Yon and from the bridge, spanning the river. Large gates at the bottom of the parklands form the main entrance. A tree-lined driveway winds its way up to the porch. The view from this dominant position extends over the surrounding countryside. Just opposite, concealed behind tall trees, is another of the commune’s famous chateaux. Many lights are installed in the fully enclosed, immaculately kept parklands. The large swimming pool, a blessing on those hot summer days, is ideal for taking a refreshing dip out of sight of onlookers. A double garage and a small outbuilding complete this property.
This chateau was constructed in the middle of the 19th century. It spans approx. 600 m² of living space over four levels. There are 13 rooms between the ground and upper floors, whilst the semi-underground basement comprises 11 rooms. The general architecture is elaborate and elegant. The carcass is in a good state of repair throughout. Most of the floors are completely vitrified. Recent fixtures and fittings ensure the comfort of the entire family.
The parklands and their leisure facilities
Landscaped, unoverlooked parklands are laid out all around the chateau. They are planted with various species of trees over a hundred years old.
Shady alleyways provide access to the different facilities such as the garden lounge and the pool-house. A 14x7 m heated swimming pool has a diving well and a 1.20 m wide deck that is 5 m long. The machine room is housed in a greenhouse which also includes a small summer kitchen, near to a terrace spanning more than 100 m².
The sober version of the 19th century neo-Renaissance style has resulted in balanced, harmonious and elegant buildings such as this one. This chateau is ideally positioned for two reasons: one, the proximity of one of France’s most dynamic towns and, two, the protection and decoration of its vast, verdant, wooded parklands. Full, discreet and extremely tasteful renovation works were carried out in 2018. The basket handle arch, with its corbelling which separates the monumental hall into two sections, is a wonderful introduction to the interior decor.
