Property description
In 1902 Lodovico Pogliaghi (architect of the monumental and beautiful door of the ‘Duomo' of Milan) designed and built a villa in the village of Santa Maria del Monte (in the province of Varese), on the slopes of the regional park and UNESCO site ‘Campo dei Fiori', situated 800 mt (2,625 ft) above sea level and just 7 kilometres from the city. Facing South, overlooking one of the most beautiful views of Lombardy that Stendhal truly appreciated, it is surrounded by a park of more than 10,000 sq.mt (107,640 sq.ft). Villa Pax, in many details, is identical to the villa where Pogliaghi lived, now open to the public as a Museum. The villa, of around 400 sq.mt (4,305 sq.ft), is composed of living room, dining room, 8 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, a small kitchenette and 2 verandas, and offers superb views of the Varese Lake and the plain, up to the hills of Piacenza, the Monte Rosa and Monviso. The park, designed as an ‘Italian garden', goes downhill along a wide path lined with sequoias, cedars and pines. Next to the entrance gate there are 4 parking spaces. The construction is very solid, the facades are squared stone, the ceilings are all made of cherry wood and are coffered. The decorations of the façade and of the terraces maintain the original features; they are in terracotta and made with the technique of graffiti. The roof is pitched and with tiles.
