Crete country houses
Houses especially designed to suit contemporary British tastes are being built in western Crete

A British developer is currently building 9 two- and three-bedroom country houses in western Crete, designed to suit British tastes.
The Litsarda Villas development is 40 minutes by road from Chania Airport – one hour and 20 minutes from Herakleion Airport – and less than five minutes' walk from the village of Litsarda. The shops, bank, post office and healthcare facilities in the small town of Vamos are two kilometres away and some of the best sandy beaches in Europe, at Almirida and Kalives, are ten minutes by car.
Half acre gardens are being planted with mature olive trees, and while the architecture of the villa is typical of the Cretan white 'sugar-cube' style, additions have been made including balustrades and pergolas on balconies. Owners who harvest their olives will be able to have them pressed by the local co-operative in Vamos.
Air-conditioning and ceiling fans on the ground floor and in bedrooms supplement the natural cooling of summer breezes though the villa which Said has achieved by ensuring the maximum number of windows in every room which offer views of the Mediterranean and Crete’s White Mountains.
Litsard Villas start at €249,900 through Caversham-Barnes
Prices at Litsarda Villas start at €249,900 for a two-bedroom villa with a floor area of 108 sq m, including a self-contained lower ground floor. The properties are supplied fully furnished and equipped, so prices include everything from the furniture, indoors and on the terraces, to crockery, pots, pans and cutlery.
