Photographers across Britain can start polishing their lenses as the 2014 competition for the British Wildlife Photography Awards is now open and entries can be received until 3rd May 2014.

Competition winners and commended entrants will see their work showcased in a touring exhibition and a beautiful book, as well as receiving an invitation to the exclusive awards ceremony. The overall competition winner will receive a cash prize of £5,000. Other prizes up for grabs include products from lead sponsors Sky and Canon.

Now in its sixth year, the hugely popular British Wildlife Photography Awards raise awareness of British wildlife, celebrating our heritage and history, while also providing an opportunity for amateur and professional photographers and videographers to gain national exposure.

The categories this year include marine life, animal behaviour, urban wildlife and, a new category, 'British Nature in Black and White'.
