Clinger House, Cucklington, Somerset. The former home of Sir Robert and Lady Sutton has just been placed on the market for the first time in more than 40 years. ?Although it looks like an old house, it is not at all,? James Sutton says. ?It was built for my parents in 1963 from old Chilmark stone by the architect R. Blenman-Bull, on my father?s old farm.
They had lived in a Georgian house and wanted something in a similar style. It has a galleried hall, suitable for hanging large family portraits, and floor-
to-ceiling windows. A fantastic feature of this house is the view: you can see for miles.
4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, drawing room, dining room, study, kitchen, double garage, formal and informal gardens. 1 acre. £1m. Strutt & Parker (01722 344010).

Exquisite houses, the beauty of Nature, and how to get the most from your life, straight to your inbox.
Country Life is unlike any other magazine: the only glossy weekly on the newsstand and the only magazine that has been guest-edited by His Majesty The King not once, but twice. It is a celebration of modern rural life and all its diverse joys and pleasures — that was first published in Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year. Our eclectic mixture of witty and informative content — from the most up-to-date property news and commentary and a coveted glimpse inside some of the UK's best houses and gardens, to gardening, the arts and interior design, written by experts in their field — still cannot be found in print or online, anywhere else.
