Boltholes in Burgundy
It's not the most obvious spot for a second home in France but the region of Burgundy, south west of Paris, has some of the finest vineyards and provides easy access to the Alps

A derelict 19th century hospital complex just outside a small town in Burgundy is being converted into flats by the Groupe Alain Crenn, specialist architects in the conversion of listed buildings in France.
All of the 16 buildings within the 3 acre grounds of Le Clos des Vignes are being transformed into 196 apartments from 1 to four bedrooms. They will be interlinked with passageways and the apartments all have a view of the gardens.
Le Clos des Vignes where 1 bedroom flats start from €154,000
Auxerre, home to Le Clos des Vignes, is 2 hours south west of Paris, in the heart of the Auxerrois and Chablis wine country.
The whole re-development should be completed by June 2011. Prices start at €154,000 through Groupe Alain Crenn (+33 (0)1 40 75 04 07; www.groupe-alain-crenn.com)
