Commuter belt repossessions
A brace of country houses in prime commuter-belt territory that have fallen casualty to the recession are coming to the market

Two country houses are being sold on behalf of LPA Receivers having previously been owned by an Icelandic Bank. Both are in need of a complete overhaul.
Chalk Hills (above) in Crawley near Winchester, Hampshire already has planning permission to demolish the existing house of 2487 sq ft and replace with it with a 6-bedroom house of about 4707 sq ft. The house has been uninhabited for nearly 3 years and sits in about 5.5 acres of land. Knight Frank are asking £1.3 million (01962 850 333). The same receivers are selling Nothing Hill House in the pretty village of Ecchinswell near Newbury. This dilipadated house sits an outstanding location and again sits in about 5.5 acres.
According to the agents, the house could either undergo a substantial refurbishment or, subject to obtaining the necessary consents, it could be enlarged or replaced with a new country house. Again, through Knight Frank who quote a guide price of £1 million (01256 350 600)
