The LAPADA/Country Life object of the year 2013
The LAPADA Object of the Year is hotting up as entries have closed and judges are preparing to select a shortlist

The LAPADA Object of the Year, run from April to June each year, gives LAPADA members the opportunity to promote a special object to potential buyers in the run up to June, a pivotal time for the UK art and antiques trade when international buyers flock to London.
It also serves to showcase the breadth, expertise and quality of antiques and works of art represented by LAPADA members. LAPADA is partnering Country Life for the fifth year running. The relationship guarantees the expertise of editorial contributor, Huon Mallalieu, who acts as Chairman of the judges. The Judges' Vote for the Object of the Year is considered to be the most prestigious award. The final short listed objects are chosen by a panel of museum curators for academic reasons based on their quality, rarity, historical importance and condition.

The shortlisted objects are displayed on a curated stand at the International Fine Art & Antiques Fair, Olympia in June before the winners are announced. The deadline for entries has now closed. The Committee will consider the shortlist of 30 entries this month and in May 12 finalists are to be picked, and previewed in Country Life. The people's vote opens and closes in June, after which the final 12 are diplayed at Olympia International Fine Art & Antiques Fair where there will be a prize-giving for the winner on June 12.

Country Life is unlike any other magazine: the only glossy weekly on the newsstand and the only magazine that has been guest-edited by HRH The King not once, but twice. It is a celebration of modern rural life and all its diverse joys and pleasures — that was first published in Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year. Our eclectic mixture of witty and informative content — from the most up-to-date property news and commentary and a coveted glimpse inside some of the UK's best houses and gardens, to gardening, the arts and interior design, written by experts in their field — still cannot be found in print or online, anywhere else.
