Fractional golf cottages in Scotland

The Registry Collection, a luxury exchange programme, has announced the affiliation of a new golf resort on the Mull of Kintyre.

The Village at Machrihanish Dunes is located on the south west coast of the Mull of Kintyre. The area has a true golfing heritage as home to The Machrihanish Golf Club, opened in 1876 with a course designed by the internationally-renowned Old Tom Morris. Many regard its opening hole as the greatest in golf and the first tee lies across the road from the resort.

The resort features a David McLay Kidd-designed 18-hole championship-standard links golf course that opened in 2009. For those more interested in holiday pursuits off the fairways, there is a beach, biking and walking trails, wind surfing, fishing, a wildlife reserve and observatory.

The Village at Machrihanish Dunes also features the newly renovated Old Clubhouse Pub, with a gym and spa due to open in 2011. The exclusive leisure property offers high-level service to its guests, who can call on concierge and room services, as well as airport transfers. Future phases of development include restoration of two classic Scottish hotels and the creation of residential family properties.

Fractional properties at the resort will be cottages to be sold in four-week fractional use periods (one in each season) with Machrihanish Dunes, depending on the size and location of the cottage. The developers are also extending to qualified purchasers the chance to buy a Discovery Package, which offers two nights’ accommodation and golf for £139.

Fractional owners are entitled to free use of the golf course during their weeks of occupancy (green fees are usually £95 per day). Two years’ membership of The Registry Collection program is also included in the purchase price at this development.

Affiliation to The Registry Collection makes more than 175 properties available through the programme that are either accessible for exchange or under development. Other membership benefits include concierge services and access to luxury travel partner products. ‘It was an easy decision to work with The Registry Collection programme,’ says David Southworth, founder and owner of Southworth Development LLC, developer of The Village at Machrihanish Dunes. ‘The Registry Collection program offers our owners access to the finest vacation resorts around the world, all offering standards of luxury comparable to our own. We’re delighted to be able to offer this service to our owners.’
