Elegant paints and wallpapers for every kind of country home
There's no shortage of elegant paints and wallpapers currently on the market — so we asked Amelia Thorpe to choose some of her favourites that will work in country homes, big and and small.
Hamilton Weston
Decorative artist Flora Roberts has created a trompe l’oeil version of her studio wall, featuring her paintings of fruit and foliage hung from vintage clips. Botanical Studies wallpaper costs £324 per 10m roll from Hamilton Weston.
Penny Morrison
A re-creation of an English embroidery style from the early 18th century, Little Begum Teal wallpaper features an array of climbing foliage and fanciful flowers. It costs £360 per 10m roll from Penny Morrison.
Susie Watson Designs
Saffron Ivory Large Shalini wallpaper combines a delicate motif in pale bone colour with a soft ochre ground, designed to add gentle elegance to any room. It costs £72 per 10m roll from Susie Watson Designs.
Edward Bulmer
Edward Bulmer Natural Paint has introduced A5 hand-painted colour swatches, a toxin-free way to sample its breathable, plant-based paints. The cards cost £1.50 each.
Ottoline de Vries
Frogspawn grasscloth wallcovering in Soft Sage and White is hand-drawn by Ottoline de Vries and digitally printed on sisal grasscloth on a non-woven backing, £575 for an extra-wide 6m roll.
Neptune
Nettle is an uplifting green paint, shown here with woodwork in Moss to complete the fresh effect. The pots cost from £48 for 2.5L emulsion from Neptune.
Fanny Shorter
Fanny Shorter’s Circe’s Garden wallpaper is inspired by the gardens of Mount Stewart in Northern Ireland, where the mild microclimate enables Mediterranean and exotic plants to grow in abundance.
Exquisite houses, the beauty of Nature, and how to get the most from your life, straight to your inbox.
‘As you walk through this near-tropical foliage, you are watched by scores of statues of animals and mythical beasts, hiding in the bracken or bracing a terrace,’ she says. ‘I was captivated and inspired.’
G. P. & J. Baker
The joyful spirit of celebrated interior designer Kit Kemp is captured in her latest collaboration with fabric and wallpaper brand G. P. & J. Baker.
Mylands
Garden designer Jinny Blom has created a collection of 12 colours in partnership with paint manufacturer Mylands. Rain, shown here, is a soft blue that pairs well with natural lime mortar. It costs £42 for 1L multi-surface eggshell.
